Week 5 Elements of Photographic Composition

My A-Ha moment, was really just simple.  I am used to creating a center of interest, it is usually of my children.  What I don't usually do, is really take into consideration the background, or what is really in the picture with my children.  So, really looking into the viewfinder, and "seeing" what this picture is that I am creating, has really opened my eyes.  I don't thinkt that I will ever take pictures quite the same!  I also liked the suggestion to just keep it simple.

I will have a hard time occasionally, depending on where I am standing to "capture the moment" with certain photos, but will also learn to place myself in better spaces to capture a better picture.

I have been extremely busy this week with the Brattleboro Winter Carnival, so all of the pictures I am posting this week are from different events.  Maybe not as creative as I would have liked, but I had to make do.

These photos are of different girls during the Queen's pageant rehearsal.  I tried to make sure the backgrounds did not have extra things in them, and I was centered squarely on the contestants.  The last 2 photos are of my youngest daughter, who will be competing in the Princess pageant on Sunday afternoon.

  1. I like the dark background in these photos. Maybe some more variety in subject and positioning would have been a bit more interesting. Great job fullfilling the assignment though, thanks for sharing!

  2. I think you did a really nice job showing how a simple background highlights the subject! How did your daughter do? She certainly looks like a princess.
