This week was amazing for me! I have often wanted to take better portrait shots, especially of my family. I really enjoyed looking at, and utilizing all of the tips that were given to us! There were so many ideas!
So, I used multiple tips that were talked about. first of all, I found interesting subjects: my daughters of course! I also took multiple shots, used many different angles, kept all of the shots simple, set up the shots before I introduced the subjects, and experimented with expressions.
I was kind of sad that I could only post 4! I had so many that came out the way I had hoped!
First, is Kira. She is my 8 year-old. I introduced a prop for her, in this case a pacasandra bundle. I also angled her shoulders, and shot from above her eyeline.
Next is Haley. I had her looking off camera, giving her space to look into. I also angled the shoulders.
Last is Tylynn. For this first photo of her, I dot down on my hands and knees. I used a different angle, and also gave her space to look into.
This one is my favorite. I used a different viewpoint for her, trying to create an interesting angle. I stood over her, while altering my depth of field as well.
So much fun! It is easy when you enjoy the subjects you are photographing!
I really like your portraits. The first two especially. The girls seem so comfortable and natural in the photo. I like the coloring as well. I chose to use black and white in my portraits but I think color worked really well in all of yours. They are soft and not distracting. My favorite is the first image with the flower.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your portraits! Seems like we both took the same approach! I also photographed my daughter and chose different tips to try out. It was a blast! I really liked all of the photos you took! I agree with Ammanda's comments on the first two photos in saying that the girls seems comfortable and natural in them. I also liked the next two photos because of the different angles you used. I love portraits taken from a different perspective or angle! great job again!
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I really love the last picture, it really highlights her eyes! I also like seeing the green grass starting to grow in.
ReplyDeleteAMAZING!!!
ReplyDeletePhoto1: I love how she is holding something very green when the background is greyish, makes her and the leafs relationship (so to say) stand out more (focused on).
Photo2:I love how shes looking to the right rather than straight on and how we cant tell what she is looking at; makes me as a viewer wonder whats off frame?
Photo3:She looks so relaxed. Obviously she is on the grass looking up, cloud watching perhaps? Daydreaming?
Photo4: My favorite as well. I like how she is upside down and looking straight into the lens. Plus her hair kind of frames her face making her eyes stand out to me that much more!
Great job!
Your portraits came out great! I really really like the very first and the very last ones. The use of a prop in the shot of Kira is a nice touch, and the position of your daugter in the photograph is just right. The photo of Tylynn is my very favorite. Her eyes pop, and her hair all around makes it seem dreamy. It's like something you'd see in a magazine. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I really love what you did with your work this week. The portraits have such great angles to them. I like the last one the best as it is for sure from a different viewpoint and the first one with the prop...so curious and fun.
ReplyDeleteI really like the last one. I could see it being used as a senior portrait. Great job experimenting with perspective!
ReplyDeleteFAbulous girls! I should have let you guys post to picasa or flickr then you could have shown your whole series. Next time I teach that class I think I'll do that.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the last one of Tylynn (I had to go back twice to make sure I spelled that right). She has such a clear relaxed gaze and the point of view is unique.
